Saturday in Chicago: Maker, Zavala, and Joe Beats record release party, and a few words to say…
Beasts. That's what all these guys are. If you don't know, you really, really should.
I'm fortunate enough to have known Maker for over a decade, when he was still living an hour from the city, making music with something like 87 of his friends. (See: TBA, Costume, etc.) Going to and/or throwing house parties. Road trips with Ketel One and virtually no sleep. Fax machines.
Now, it's 2011, and this guy is making more music for more people. You hear his shit. I know you do. Movie trailers, commercials, video games, small dive bars, on tour across the world. The list goes on.
Top that off with someone like Zavala, who I swear hid his talents from people for years before he decided to release his inimitable skills upon the Earth. I remember him letting people hear his beats way back when, and me (along with like 400 other people at the bar or whatever) would bug the shit out of this guy. "Why don't you put some shit out? Why don't you do more beats for people?" He'd act all humble an' shit, like he had no confidence.
Such a fucking lie. I swear it was like one day, he just came out of the basement or something with dynamite strapped to his torso, holding a couple of rocket launchers and asking, "Who wants to fuck with me now, bitches?" It didn't really happen like that, but it sure does feel like it.
So, these are two extra-nice and extra-talented guys, two people for whom I've always had mad respect. This, along with the fact that they can produce better music than most people on this entire planet, is the reason why you should get your ass over to their release party on Saturday in Chicago.
Maker has a new tandem record out with another producer extraordinaire, Joe Beats, titled Falcon by Design, and Zavala is dropping the instrumental LP of the Vessel album by Dark Time Sunshine. Also killing it will be DJ Abilities (who you should definitely know) and the always bangin' DJ Pratt. Check the info below, pick up the records from the wonderful folks at Fieldwerk, and get your ass on over to the party.
Oh, P.S. Maker has a new interview up in the Chicago Tribune. Check it here.
